Here you can learn the basic quilling shapes by using quilling tools in step by step procedure. By
practising the below shapes, you can create your own quilling designs.
Open Coil
Roll a tight circle with slotted-quilling-tool.
Slip it off the tool and let the coil release and expand then glue the end to
the roll. This is the basic quilling shape.
All of the other shapes first start with a
loose circle and then they are turned into their shape. The loose circle can be
placed in the Circle sizer Board and expanded into the preferred circle size. By
using the sizer board, you can get perfect shape.
Marquise
Create a loose circle. By using both hands, hold the coil between your index fingers and thumbs. Pinch points at the opposite sides at the same time.

Teardrop
Create a loose circle. Hold the coil in one hand between index finger and thumb. With your other hand, pinch one side of the circle to form a point.

Slug
Create a marquise and curve the pinched ends
in the opposite direction. To create this use your fingernail or side of the needle
tool.
Squares
Create a marquise and turn it ninety degrees
and pinch two more points on the opposite sides. Each side should be about the
same size forming a square.
Curved Squares
create a square. By using two hands curve the square.

Rectangle
Create a marquise. Then turn it slightly and pinch two more points on opposite sides. There should be two short sides and two long sides forming a rectangle.

Diamond
Create a loose circle. By using both hands,
hold the coil between your index fingers and thumbs. Pinch points at the
opposite sides at the same time.
Triangle
Create a teardrop. In one hand, hold the
teardrop between index finger and thumb. With the other hand, press the rounded
end inward to form three points.
Shark Fin
Create a triangle. Press in on the sides of
the triangle to make the shark fin shape.
Half Circle
Create a teardrop. Then pinch a second point
close to the first point. The distance between the two pinched points will
affect the height of the half circle.
Curved Half Circle
Create a half circle. Then curve the points toward each other.

Ghost
Create a
triangle. Then Move to inside coil away from the point and pinch a second
point.
Odd Lengths
Create a marquis Pinch
off corners in random places. Mold into desired shape.
Arrow
Create a tear drop. Press in
the round part with the tip of your tool, Use your fingers to smooth out
the curve.
Arrow Head
Create a tear drop. While
holding the pointed end, pinch the opposite end and without letting go - push
in towards the original point. Pinch off the two newly created small
points to create the arrowhead.
Tulip
Create a marquis. Push in
one side with two fingers as shown, to make a point.
House
Create a ghost shape. Turn the shape and pinch
off two more points. Finish by pinching one more top point to create the house
shape
Holly
Leaf
Create a marquis.
Use tweezers to hold the center. Pinch off new small points on either
sides of the two existing points. Make two last points by using your
fingers to pinch the rounded sides to make the holly leaf.
Star
Create a House. Then pull
out the points to create a star shape.
Heart
Create a tear drop
shape. Press in the rounded part with the help of slotted tool or finger.
